I've been assigned a project to update our V5 Open-E systems to the latest V5 firmware. I'm not too familiar with these systems, but I'm having to get up to speed quickly. Here's my situation:
We have two V5 DSS systems acting as CIFS shares and iSCSI volume targets, with volume replication defined between the two systems. Both are using Areca ARC1222 RAID controllers, both are licensed for 16GB storage, and both are currently running V5 build 3278 ("Version: 5.0.DB49000000.3278"). I believe both are booting from a local disk or LUN, but I'm not 100% sure at the moment. Still trying to figure out how to tell exactly what is configured here.
My question is, I see two different software update paths:
- b4562, released 2010-06-18 (via the open-e.com product updates web page)
- b3562, released 2010-07-27 (via the online updater)
Which one of these is the one I should I be using? The one with the newest release date (b3562), or the one with the largest build number (b4562)?
Also, if I use the online updater, it will download a 260MB file (the b3562 update iso), but doesn't show any further updates available beyond that build version. Is it possible to upgrade from b3562 to b4562, and is that is the correct way to go, even though the b4562 release date is older?
