    Default vmware, open-e and replication

    Hello!

VMWare has a 2TB LUN Limit:

There are some Articles about Vmfs lun locking:
    http://communities.vmware.com/thread/260655
    http://www.punchingclouds.com/?p=1020

Open-e says, that the number of replication tasks should not be to high, because this has a negative impact on the failover functionality.

We have 6 ESX-Hosts, 70 VMs and 16TB capacity on our new open-e storage. If we create the lun's with the maximum capacity what with ESX ist possible, then we have 8 Lun's with 2TB an 8 Replication Tasks. Is this number of Replication tasks a problem?

Otherwise, the issue with the vmfs lun locks suggests, that it is better to have more smaller luns to avoid performance problems.

This is a real dilemma for me.

What are the recommendations from open-e?

We recommend to keep the replications around 20 as more then 40 can cause issues. For your setup with 8 this should not be an issue.
    All the best,
