I'm setting up an Open-E replication system for a customer. There will be 2 Open-e machines with an unknown number of logical volumes, but it'll probably be a few (10 to 15, all different sizes).
If one of the 2 servers fails, the other one can be set to source and the data is ready, no problem there. If one of the 2 servers dies and a new one needs to be set up, every single LV has to be added manually. This is annoying and time-consuming, as the LV's has to match exactly to the LV's of the other Open-E server. Otherwise, the data replication won't work.
Is it possible to export the LV settings/sizes, and import them to create the LV's all at once?
Unfortunately it's not possible to export LV settings but you can try to use API in order to prepare a script that will let you automatically create the same LVs on different DSSes.
Check our Open-E DSS V6 manual (page 46-47) for more details: http://www.open-e.com/service-and-su...loads/manuals/
Yeah okay, but that's the possible situation. I want to know if it's possible to export all settings, so in case we have a dead server, a new one can be set up in no time. What settings does it exactly export?
SETUP and CONFIGURATION from WebGUI (except LVM), DATA for ACLs ( but not the data/information) as your data will be saved on the storage.
And when having this saved settings it will help you to bring your dead server back as fast as possible.
But to let you know if you’re dead server get some new hardware, then in this case you will need to get a new activation for your license key, it is a way to protect customer license key from being used on another computers than the one they register.
