I would like to benchmark the performance INSIDE the SAN. Is there a way to do this?

The best is to do it by your self, by using different file sizes, like for example too many small files, and also files with a very large size, and you can find the statistics at:
STATUS -> hardware -> Function: Server statistics

Find the way the test done on the following posts, it should help you:

I think you can check using this parameter check it out.

parameters passed set location /scratch1, set number 5000, set transactions 5000, set buffering false, set size 500 10000000

    parameters passed -d /scratch1 -s 2030 -y

Try both parameter if it works for you. If you configuration supports. Thanks

There is a disk test tool that is provided that can be used. It does a quick read/write test.
Frankly, the best way to do all your testing is to boot to a live CD type OS and run your tests there.
I use a server running DRBL and boot my test systems into an Ubuntu image where I tools like xdd, bonnie, etc to test.
