Thread: ISCSI crossover cables

  1. #1

    Question ISCSI crossover cables

Is there any reason why we can't use crossover cables to connect our VMWare hosts directly to our Open-E SAN, rather than using gigabit switches? If not what are the pros and cons?

    Default

You can use the direct connection from DSS V6 to the VMware servers providing you have enough NICs on the DSS V6, I would recommend to use MPIO if you have the NICs to spare. If NICs are not available or more cant be added then this is where the switch adds value but I got a 24 port 1GbE switch for under $360.00.

We use direct connection for some of our systems. Seems to work well.
