Thread: Error in rsync protocol data

  1. #1

Default Error in rsync protocol data

I am trying to use data replication to back up one DSS to another as a backup solution. Most of my shares are backing up with no issues. It's my vmware share that is having issues. I can't get it to complete the first time without errors. It will run for a little over 3 hours and then I am getting an Error 12: Error in rsync protocol data stream.

I've been to this link but it really doesn't tell me anything. Any place else I can look at on the machines and find out what is going on?

most common error 12 is this:
The destination disk is full (remember that you need at least the size of the largest file that needs to be updated available in free disk space for the transfer to succeed).

    Same goes for snapshot

So does the destination share need to be bigger than the source? It's showing that the destination is using a lot more storage than the source. I can make it bigger if needed but I don't know if I have enough space.

    Source
Name Size (GB) Used (GB) Free (GB) Usage
    lv0000 1500.00 1151.62 348.38 76.8%

    Destination
Name Size (GB) Used (GB) Free (GB) Usage
    lv0000 1500.00 1416.57 83.43 94.4%

    Snapshot size is 1,000GB

Keep in mind that the Destination is not close to having all of the data.

make it larger, or clean off old data, and see if it helps.

Well if I do a properties in windows of the destination share, it only shows about 246GB used and not the 1416.57 that DSS shows.

Yea. I created a new LV for each share.

    2 things:

1- update to the latest build of DSS

2- one of the destinations vmdk is to small:
rsync: write failed on "/COR-WebServer/COR-WebServer-flat.vmdk" (in Copy of cor-itvms1): No space left on device (28)
