hi there,
currently in our company we use Arcserve R12 backup solution. Problem is, that actually we can not back up DSSV6 NAS, because a login to the implemented Agent on DSS is not working. A lot of emails and posts where written and nothing changed.
So now, we think about an upgrade to Arcserve R16, the latest release. Question now: is it, or will it be possible to connect to the DSS V6 Arcserve backup agent and back up NAS storage?
Or, are there other solutions that work together with DSSV6? What should be possible with our backup solution:
- windows servers via agent
- linux servers via agent#
- vmware guests on NFS share
- NAS (nfs,smb)
- iscsi (will be backed up via servers)
Actually the built-in backup agent is quite old and it hasn't been tested with the newest version of Arcserve software.
This problem has been already escalated and the backup agents will be updated in our products to make them compatible with the newest versions of backup software.
However I can't provide you with any estimated time when it will be ready.
Thank you for your quick answer. If it is an option for you, i will help to test an new available agent. Pls let me know.
What do you think about NDMP protocoll? Does this protocoll enable a communication between arcserve and DSSV6? Is this something like a "standard" agent for backup, because there is also an optinal arcserve agent for this(!)
Or does this mean, arcserve can only backup DSS V6 content to a local attached tape?
Thanks a lot, we will let you know when we will have the at least beta version of Arcserve backup agent ready. It would be great to have the feedback from end users if it's working.
Regarding the NDMP, we haven't tested it with Arcserve. It was tested only with:
- NetBackup
- NDMP backup
However you may try to set it up with Arcserve.
There is a different backup agent for each backup software built-in the DSS V6. We plan to update most of them in the near future as they are currently quite outdated.
