Default CIFS mounts via Linux and plain passwords

    Hi all,

i am trying to mount open-e server via Red Hat/Scientic Linux 6.1 and CIFS.
And i have to use plain passwords.

Is here someone who knows, how it works? I am a little bit confused with
error messages by the mount and smbclient commands.

Is was playing with /proc/fs/cifs/SecurityFlags, but maybe i am wrong.
Well, my clients are Fedora 14 and will be later Fedora 16.

    Thanx for any help!

    Detlev

What are those error messages that you face?

If they are one of the following, then please find the solution after the errors:

    Error: Invalid user name
    Usernames cannot:
    (1) Contain characters such as ~ ! @ # $ ^ & ( ) + [ ] { } * ; : ' " . , % | < > ? / \ = `
    (2) Begin or end with a space
The use of the Windows SMB (Server Message Block) protocol, also known as CIFS or Samba, places some restrictions on the use of special characters. These restrictions have historical reasons, but are still binding today. Usernames must not contain any of the above mentioned characters.

    Error: invalid user password
A user password cannot begin or end with a space. Spaces are not legitimate characters at the beginning and end of a password. Maybe you inadvertently hit the space bar during password entry. Please reenter your password.

    Error: invalid administrator password
Administrator password cannot begin or end with a space. Spaces are not legitimate characters at the beginning and end of a password. Maybe you inadvertently hit the space bar during password entry. Reenter your password.

Well, i can access the open-e Samba server via MacOS and W2008R2, so i think, usernames
    and passwords are ok.

I don't know, how to enable plain passwords for Fedora systems (or Red Hat or Scientific
Linux). This is my problem. I want to test Samba access via our Linux clients.
(For MacOS this is easy, i need only a nsmb.conf file, but for Fedora i have
to change SecurityFlags and maybe other things.)
