Thread: Changed FC Switch, now cant see anything.

Default Changed FC Switch, now cant see anything.

Hi there folks. I recently purchased the DSS product and licensed my machines.

One problem, the DSS machines were connected to an HP MSA SAN switch, and were seeing the HP MSA arrays as usable, exceeding my licensed TB limit. The MSA arrays are all formatted and in use, so that was weird.

No problem, I will just connect the DSS machines and ESX hosts using a cisco mds9124 switch.

Did that and now I dont have the licensing issue, but the ESX server cant see the DSS FC targets.

Anything I should look for to configure the cisco switch differently?

If it helps, here is the following information on the current FC switch config:

FC Switch - Cisco MDS 9124
Port Settings - VSAN 1... all traffic allowed, Port Type F, Trunking Off

The interfaces all come up immediately, by still cant see the DSS SAN no matter what I do.

I have no FCDOMAIN interop mode or anything like that running, switch is running a bare bones default setup just for testing.
    Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Please open a support ticket from user portal to receive small update so your FC adapter will work only as target and it will not see other LUNs in network.

As for ESX are the volumes <2TB and block size 512b ?

Ok thanks will open up a ticket as soon as I can for the FC target only update. Not getting emails after trying to register my products.

Yep the volumes are 2000 GB's with a blocksize of 512.

If I reconnect the DSS and ESX boxes to another HP MSA with no disks, they see each other just fine.

    OK I got it.

It was the config on the Cisco MDS 9124.

I had to set up FC Zones, ZoneSets, and InlineZones and everything worked.

    Hope this helps someone else!
