I have setup a test environment based on the webinar about hosting the a HA DSS iscsi failover as vm's with esx1 4.1. The issue I am having is that when i try copy an existing vm on to an iscsi volume the ESX Hosts lose connection to the iscsi volume.
I have had similar issues with physical DSS servers with 4GB Fibre channel and this is still not resolved. I have tried different hardware but it appears that the open-e servers cant handle high I/O.
Can you provide me the hdparm from the tests.log, and from the dmes2 log I would like to see the RAID controllers settings to see if the Write Cache is enabled. Did you send in a ticket on this?
Hi Tom,
Hi what email address can I email the logs to as requested, I have had a call logged once before when we where getting same problem using FC but it has never been working perfectly. And now that we have some 10GBe cards we though this may resolve the issue but it doesn't. Have tried other storage vendors and not had the problem. Please help.
Could you please open a support ticket from user portal : http://www.open-e.com/userportal/tec.../contact_form/
and support us with the system logs for your system and with details what you've done and what you are facing now.
System Logs are available to download from our DSS Web GUI : status ->hardware -> Function: Logs (download this file and send it to us with your ticket).
I have logged a support call as we have similar issues on our production servers that use open-e for Fibre Channel Luns this is the Ticket Number (Ticket#1028763), basically when transferring large VMDK files the ESX 4 Cluster servers lose connections to the open-e LUN, even when I have stop volume replication. We have fitted LSI cards and made the settings suggested but no good.
We have Tried Dell, HP hardware the Fibre Channels Cards are Qlogic 2462 we have tried these straight through and also using brocade silkworm switches but still the same. Have tested with a different storage product and it works ok.
I know there used to be a problem with virtual iron and open-e disconnecting on heavy load so maybe this is a similar issue. We are thinking of getting in two new test servers Dell R710, 64GB Memory, Dual CPU x 4 Core and 8GB Fibre to setup one as Esx and one as open-e with a point to point fibre connection to see it that works but really our existing setup should work.
