Default Use a volume with both iSCSI and FC

    Hi,

Is it possible to have a volume mapped via both iSCSI and FC at the same time?
I want to set up an Open-E box and use it as a migration storage between our FC storage and iSCSI storage; svmotion a VM from regular FC SAN to the FC Volume on the Open-E box, then power off the VM and add it via iSCSI on the new server cluster.

    Should be possible, right?

    Hi Andreas,

In DSS V6 we use iSCSI logical volumes for iSCSI targets and FC logical volumes for FC targets, so it won't be possible to use the same volume for iSCSI and FC target. It's also not possible to convert iSCSI volume to FC volume.
What you can do is to create to separate targets and connect your ESX to both of targets, then move the data from FC target to iSCSI target.

    Thanks for the quick reply!

The problem I'm facing is that one cluster only has iSCSI connectivity, and the other one only has FC connectivity, there are no free ports anywhere to add the extra card/networks that are needed.

Are you aware of any software or hardware that can manage this?

    /Andreas

You can backup up your data from iSCSI or FC, or both to an external storage for example, then you can recreate the targets using one of them, and restore your backup again on the new target.
