Thread: Technical question 2 x SAN

Default Technical question 2 x SAN

    Will this solution work?

We have 2 x MSA1500 controller with dual controller in each. And MSA20 connected with 12 x 1TB SATA.

Will install 2 servers with DSS v6, each server have 2 x FC connection to each of the respective MSA1500.

    Each MSA1500 have example 4LUN With 2TB (4 x RAID5)

In DSS v6, can we create an big volume from 4 x 2TB LUN to one 8TB volume?

Will use DSS v6 to mirror 2 x MSA1500 SAN and use 2 path ISCI to ESXI servers.

So we get a totally redundant solution with 4 RAID controller, and 8 x RAID volumes into a fat disk and hopefully get a hell of a greasy IO and disk speed.

    Will this work well?

For sure you can create a volume with 8TB size with Open-E, you even can create a volume with much bigger capacity from that. We have some customers who's have a one volume with size over 200TB.

For the dual controller, it should work, and trying the DSS as trial in your environment will give you the best result to be sure about all compatibility.

MSA1500 have i limit to max 2TB LUN, SCSI limit.

And you want to get a bigger storage, so the reason for the question if you could merge the LUN to a larger volum on DSS.

Then, should the performance be better with 4 x RAID 5 together?
