Finally I got it to work, not sure if there is some kind of bug in the software but here's what I did. Removed the NFS option and checked the status to make sure the screens were been refreshed and yes the status reported OFF and INACTIVE. Then I removed and deleted all the shares I had created and then rebooted the DSS server. Then before creating any new shares I enabled the NFS option and checked the status, and yes the service was running. I then created new share called "nfs" enabled NFS option checked status again still running, then from my ESX box connected through to the newly created nfs share and I can see it. Hopefully this may help others, frustrating when you have done things correctly but they for some unexplained reason don't work.
