Thread: Hardware monitoring, disk failures

    Default Hardware monitoring, disk failures

    Hi.

What options do I have for hardware monitoring, for example during disk failures?

Either in a software RAID configuration or with hardware RAID, PERC 6i in this case.

Can I rely on being notified via e-mail from open-e? How about snmp?

Dell OMSA support would be great for me but I'm guessing it doesn't work in DSS V7?

I'm evaluating software storage options (FreeNAS, Nexenta and Open-e DSS V7 are on my radar) for serving iSCSI datastores to our VMware hosts and hardware status monitoring is a key issue for us.

    regards
    Mikko

Yes you can receive an email notification from Open-E DSS system that notify you about a disk failures or some other issues like if the system is facing a failover and one of the systems get stopped in case of replication/failover, or if the RAID controller is having an issues, and more.

You may check the following Forum post for more details about email notification and OMSA:
