Thread: Software Raid Licensing

  1. #1

    Default Software Raid Licensing

So I have 4x2TB drives that I would like to setup software raid 0+1 or 10. That gives me 4TB. I am licensed for 4TB, however, I am getting an error that says total storage size exceeds licensed storage capability.

    How do I fix this?

::EDIT:: So I did the calculator, and what it looks like is if I do HW raid, I can license 4TB, but software requires an 8TB license? Am I reading that right?

This is because you are using Software RAID and it will see all disks. Use this calculate from the link below to determine your storage license needs.

And there is no software RAID 10, AFAIK?

Correct, S/W Raids supports only 1 layer arrays

I would of thought that it would at least allow you to create the software raid and then let you create a volume group if you raid volume was within the license capacity, not just stop you from doing anything. This would stop problems where users buy a couple of 2x2TB drives to use the free version and then find out they cant use the drives.
