Thread: NAS replication from multiple sites .

  1. Question NAS replication from multiple sites .

    Hi Friends ,

we have a technical solution requirement for our client and are planning to deploy open-e DSS 7 as a central storage appliance and for branch locations we are planning to deploy QNAP NAS appliances . the customer wants NAS replication and Backup from branch locations to the central location .

so I wanted to know if we can replicate NAS data from Multiple Branch locations that are using QNAP NAS appliance to a Open-E based Storage appliance located at the HO . please let me know what are the technical requirements for this solution to work . as our customer requires seperate backup NAS volumes for each branch location .

Thanks in advance for your help on this solution , i look forward to hearing from you .

    Regards

To make it more clear, are you looking just for backup some files/data or the whole entire volume(s) ?
Also do you want to backup the system or replicate it ? ( replicate is like taking an exact copy of all your system ).

Do you want to backup snapshots, or the real data ? also the backed up data, is it from the kind that used all the time, or there are some period of time that files (data) are not in use, and you may use the backup time in this period of time ?

    Hi Al-S ,

thank you for your reply . the requirement is for Backup of Files/Data . this would be predominantly only NAS files/Folders created at the branch locations .

Replication of the NAS data would be useful as it would give the exact copy for restore incase of any failure at the branch level NAS appliance .

the data would be of end users , so each user would be accessing his own files/folders on the NAS at the branch location . so it would be beneficial if the solution can provide incremental backup or replication of file/folders on the central device which we plan to power by open-e DSS7 .

do let me know if this scenario should be possible .

    thanks .
