In order to backup from iSCSI Target Source you will need to back up locally and for the Destination just make a Snapshot from the Destination target define a Snapshot
Volume to the target then login from initiator and back up locally. This must be started manually or scheduled, to have the latest data. This will not be updated automatically.

Thanks for your answer Todd, but unfotunately I do not quite follow you.
The idea is to make a backup of the replica, is that possible?
Server 1 contains the iSCSI targets, it replicates to server 2. Server2 should be backed up, not server1 (because we don't want to load server1 with this).

You cannot make a backup from the Replica or Destination server. Backup function for DSS is for the NAS (file based). We do not have this function for iSCSI if need some type of solution use Snapshot as explained from previous response.

    Another question concerning backup...
You say it's not possible to make a direct backup from an iSCSI target.
But are there backup clients for the NAS environment for for example Comvault and/or Legato??

Yes for the NAS section of the DSS you can use our built in clients for backup from a backup server (Brightstor, Backup Exec and Retrospect) or the Built in backup software in DSS (information in manual on how to use this) and you can direct attached the tape drive as well. Please review the listed HCL for DSS on the tape manufactures.

Legato is something we are looking into but no decision as of yet unless we have a PO's to support this rapidly.
