Thread: symlinks in filesystem

  1. #1

    Question symlinks in filesystem

We have set up the DSS and we are building a file structure.

What we now would like to build is different structures leading to the same physical folders for categorizing data in different ways.

So as we have Windows as well as Linux users accessing the shares I would like to create symlinks from one directory to another.

We tried with an SSH connection to the administration of the DSS but it does not seem that there is a possibility to get a "normal" shell where I could access the filesystem for example to create a symlink with ln.

Is there a possibility to get down to the filesystem of the DSS with an ssh shell?

    Default

We block all shell access for all our products. In the past, years ago this caused a huge issue with supporting mistakes when users accessing the shell (typo errors....). So in place we provide the Demo-CD's for a 30 day eval. for all customers to view all the features and options with our products, this provided customers information before implementing our products.

If you need a symlink for DSS, please send in your request to support@open-e.com asking if the software engineers can provide you an update.
    All the best,

    Todd Maxwell
