Thread: Virtio NIC/HDD support to run OpenE as VM Guest on KVM ?

Default Virtio NIC/HDD support to run OpenE as VM Guest on KVM ?

Hi, I am curious. Is there support in OpenE Current - to run as a VM on KVM virtual platform / with VirtIO HDD and NIC support ?

I have just tried to do such an install, and I am told, "no storage detected" when the installer boots.

    Thanks,

    Tim

Was the OS for the VM a Linux 64bit platform? Try with SCSI and or IDE to see if this works. We don't have this in our labs to test so I would need you or others here to test.

Hi Todd, I am happy to test it further. I will try this and followup. I am guessing performance would not be as nice as VirtIO of course (alas).

In theory (?) I would have thought adding VirtIO support to OpenE might be pretty straightforward (?) since it is inherently supported in pretty much all standard linux environments though .. but maybe there are reasons not to add in "HDD Controller support" willy nilly; I am not sure.

    Thanks,

    Tim

You are correct that we should have this but there are more Hyper Visors on the market now and this is the first that we had someone ask.
Let me know of your tests.
    All the best,
