if i understood the documentation correct it is possible to mirror 2 nas-r3 systems without any problems, nice feature but really interesting this will be if the nas modules can do ip takeover in the case the main system fails. like heartbeat or keepalive, one virtual ip (handled per vrrp for example).
thanks for the Information, that doesnt sound very surprising till we already have a bunch of nas/iscsi open-e in production use. this lack of feature make open-e less useful in larger envirements, so lets get back to real hardware solution. too bad.
just for personal interests, it is no bug deal to setup a linux based system with drbd/heartbeat system which can handle this. afaik the open-e are based up on well known opensource software, can the firmware be modified/rebuild by us?
Possibly - but we have so many requests - please send this to support@open-e.com so our engineers can decide what time frame or if this is already in plan. Please do not expect this to be done quickly as there are so many factors involved testing, QA...... and with other projects.
