    Default Mac OSX 2 TB > support

    We got a 7 TB Open-E Data Storage Unit and trying to use Atto Xtend SAN 2.11 on our Apple G5 XServe. the Raid set is 2.77 TB but the Apple XServe see it as 2 TB - Why ?

    We got this from Atto Tech Support:

    Both Xtend SAN and OSX support volumes greater than 2TB. The typical problem is as follows:

    Apple looks at byte 2 of the returned Inquiry Data (version field) in order to determine if a device supports 16 byte CDB's. In order to support a volume larger than 2TB 16 byte CDB's must be supported. If Apple does not see that a device supports SPC-3 (05h in byte 2) they will not send 16 byte read capacities or 16 byte CDB's at all. I would check with Open-E to see if you can change something on the array to allow for 16 byte CDB's.

    Were do we change the CDB on Open-E for this ?

    Are you using an Areca RAID controller? If so, create the RAID set and select 64bit LBA and 512B sector size .

    Talking with the Tech who set up the Raid Set, he said he selected select 64bit LBA and 512B sector size .

    Our G5 XServe only see 2 TB of the 2.77 TB Raid Set.

    No Good time - losing over a half TB of raid space..

    Can you test with GlobalSAN v3 from link below. Let me know the results as we may want to review the logs if this does not work.

    We uninstall XtendSAN and installed GlobalSAN v3.

    Still the G5 XServe only see the 2.77 TB as 2 TB

    Missing .77 TB of storage space.

    Note: Does the GlobalSAN v3 have support for Mac OS 8 or 9 ?????

    We still have some older Macs in service and may want to use the ISCSI system

    Any possibility you can send the log file to support, also we would like to ask if would be willing to enable Remote Support Services to allow our engineers to perform some tests and work on a solution. You will need to send logs in support first then you will receive a "Ticket #" then enable the Remote Support with entering this Ticket #.

    for Logs:

    Status > Hardware > Logs then click on the Download button and send log with description of problem for us to mark.

    for Remote Support:

    From Console screen enter CTRL + ALT + X for Extended Tools then select option for Remote Support Services.
