    Default SMART is disabled

    Hello All.

I have some problems with accessing SMART data from Open-E interface. Status->SMART shows "S.M.A.R.T. Disabled" for my RAID unit (however SMART is enabled in Hardware Configuration). HDDs are connected to 3Ware 9590 RAID controller. I can see SMART data in 3Ware 3DM2 but it comes in binary form that not really useful
can anyone guide me to the roots of the problem?

    Thanks in advance.

    Default S.M.A.R.T feature

The built-in S.M.A.R.T feature does not work with Hardware RAID controllers.
It will only work with ATA / SATA on the motherboard. The 3Ware controller is
responsible for handling all information as well as alerting to any errors.
I would recommend setting up the email-alerting feature on the 3Ware controller.

    For reference:

To enable the S.M.A.R.T futures in NAS-XSR Ent. please go to Console screen
and enter ctrl. + alt. + w then select “Functionality Options” - enable this
with space bar. Now the GUI will be able to show the information.
    All the best,

    Todd Maxwell

    Default iscsi

I also using a 3ware card, but wonder if there is other data I can get from SMART being turned on. Like you say enabling SMART through console, is this safe to do on live system, no reboot required? Can I just go into console enable as you mention and everything should run smoothly with no need for reboot or causing any problems to my system?

    thanks
    Barry
