Hi Todd, thanks for the explanation. Went back and set up a number of logical volumes, restricting access to each according to the server IP. Shared some at the server level where necessary. Working now as I was expecting.
I've rearranged the Raid array so now I have 4 x 300s as a single R5, with the last disk as a global hot spare.
TO see what would happen I pulled one disk from the R5. It kept right on going, disk access and data just as before - excellent. However, I could not turn off the alarm. Even after the data was reconstructed onto the spare, and the "failed" disk repaced, the alarm kept sounding.
Is the alarm control part of Open-E, or is that something I need to take up with Intel?
Finally - we will be purchasing the DOM as soon as possible. Once this is installed will it pick up the existing (trial) configuration and data. There are about 20 days of the trial left.
