Default FC Target In DSS - Trouble Getting Started

    I'm using the new DSS demo d/led today. Qlogic 2-port 2gb QLA2342

First of all, if I initialize when creating a FC logical volume, the system slows to an unusable crawl (5-10 minutes to load a page). If I don't initialize everything is normal.

I created aliases for each port and added the LV to the "Default" FC target. But the Default target will not allow me to add Aliases. The menu isn't even there. I have to create a new target (can you even delete FC targets?) and then do it.

When I made the aliases for each port, I just named them "Port1" and "Port2". I assigned the WWN numbers of the ports which I copied down from looking in the console utility (ctrl-F).

I connected my client machine directly to it. It got a link and autoconfigured the port for 2gbps, point-to-point.

But the OS did not detect a new disk drive.

I got it working. I thought the alias was for the target's WWNs - not the WWN of the server/client. Thinking a target's port had to be added to the group. Didn't realize it was an access list.

Aliases are not required if the volumes are added to the default FC Group as all clients/initiators have access by default to the default group.
