i am using the build in Backup Exec Agent to backup the Storage. I am reaching a network througput from about 1GB/min. How can i increase this ?
With iscsi i can reach about 3.1GB/min.
I am using:
- Data Storage Server 1.21.DB00000000.2722 on
a Thomas-Krenn Server with Dual GB NIC with bounding
- Symantec Backup Exec 11d on a HP ML 350 with a Single GB NIC
There are few things you can do to increase performance:
* Use a 10G NICs ( If you keep using the 1G NICS is your bottle neck)
* Use SAS drives. As SAS drives shows better performance than SATA (you can Google this, a good web to check is tomshardware.com)
* Make sure to upgrade to latest version of your DSS (1.21 is old) I have 1.37. BUT be aware to backup your data. As starting from 1.28 or 1.30 (Iam not sure you can ask open-e guys) open-e start using Block-IO instead of File-IO. So backup, upgrade then restore them back.
mmm.. That what I can think about (Connection, drive speed and system upgrade)
Let me hear back from you.. its always good to hear success stories
i have updated to the newest version (1.37.DB00000000.2922) but it is the same. On other machines with Backup Exec Agent on it, i can reach about 1,8 GB/min. So i don't think that the network is the bottle neck.
Also, if i am testing to read data from my storage server from different computers and count everything together i can reach a read performance from about 120 MB/s (7,2GB/min). So i also don't think that the sata disks are the bottle neck.
mmm... U bond 2 1Gb NICs on ur DSS, and u have "- Symantec Backup Exec 11d on a HP ML 350 with a Single GB NIC" ! Gb in ur Backup will slow the performance.
U mentioned u get 3.1Gb/min in your iSCSI, any bonding there?
