Thread: 2TB Capacity

    Default 2TB Capacity

    Hi,

Open-E DSS LITE is licenced for up to 2TB. Is this RAW or usable Capacity?

For Example: I have 8x 300 GB Disks and like to use them with Open-E (RAID6)

    RAW-Capacity is 8x 300GB = 2400GB
    RAID6 6x 300GB = 1800GB

    Is this possible?

    Regards, Harry

If using a Hardware RAID then DSS LITE will see 1.8TB and with Software RAID you will see 2.4TB of usable capacity.

So, is it still possible to use software raid on the DSS lite version for the 2.4 TB raw space, as long as the resulting usable capacity after the software raid is less than 2 TB?

Also, what happens if the system has much more than 2TB? Are the volumes then just limited to 2TB? What happens?

    Hi To-M & Robotbeat,

    thats a really good question!

I really like to use the DSS Lite!
But before I think about the migration of my 1.2 TB data, I'd like to know if I can use this 8x 300 GB Disks...
    BTW: I don't have a HW-RAID, so I need to use SW-RAID...

    Thanks and regards,

    Harry

You can have up to 2TB with software raid "RAW", additional capacity beyond this will not be usable. You can have more than 1 Volume Group or add to your existing Volume Group.

I need to update all on this issue and sorry for the confusion.

HW RAID RAW storage limit is 2TB

SW RAID RAW storage limit is 2TB

If you do not use any RAID, RAW storage limit connected to the system is 2TB.

Due to the new restrictions, and the experience of other users here... The 'Lite-Version' is useless for me

Sorry to say that but some of the 'old' DSS-Lite users are not very happy how open-e handles 'potential' new users.

    Anyway... Thanks for this promo!

Dude, it's free. Regular DSS is like $1200. They release a free version and you're complaining about it.
