Well, I think I still have a job since I saved the patient this morning. After running the Promise Synchronization tool overnight, I tried booting it this morning. No error! It booted up OK and I was able to use the extended tools and "select default volume group."
I put the server back on the network and all the data is still there.
The next phase in this is to figure out what actually happened. This system ran flawless for almost a year in a dedicated server environment protected by UPS and generator. We didn't have any power hits or anything unusual and the RAID controller logs didn't report anything.
