    Default VTL: Confusion Abounds

Greetings one and all. I've been trolling the forums and reading the documentation while my demo CD downloads trying to figure out precisely how virtual tape works. What I'd like to do is deploy a DSS presenting iSCSI LUNs to my client's servers at their site. I'd also like the customer deployed DSS to serve as a VTL so that they're spooling data to tape as infrequently as possible. On my end I'd like to, at minimum replicate the LUN housing the VTL to my DSS via an ipsec or ssl vpn link over the Internet.

So now that I've laid out the scenario for background purposes, I have a few questions for the assembled experts. The customer uses Arcserve. Can their Arcserve server see the VTL if pointed to it and use it for archival purposes? Am I totally misreading the purpose of this functionality?

    Thanks,

    wood

    If I understand you correctely:
VTL is used for local backup.
You can setup a schedule for the backup tasks at the customer site
may want to do an incremental backup every 24 hours
    Hope this helps
