I'm trying to connect my SAN via fibre direct-attached to my media server but I can not see the LUN on my media server.
I'm using 2 Emulex LP9002 HBA cards (FL-AL), no switches.
Are the Emulex LP9002 cards compatible with open-e dss or do I need qlogic hba cards?

- 24TB @ raid 6
- new FC volume -> block size 512 bytes, Initialize(checked)
- Configuration -> FC Target Manager:
Warning: No Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter found. All Groups and HBAs settings will be saved but will have no functionality until you plug in appropriate HBA card.
- Setup -> Fibre Channel:
Info
No Fibre Channel controllers found
I'm not using q-logic HBA cards.. I'm using emulex HBA cards..
As open-e dss does not see the emulex cards as "usable".. hence the messages
- No Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter found. All Groups and HBAs settings will be saved but will have no functionality until you plug in appropriate HBA card.
- Info
No Fibre Channel controllers found
But it does see them under Status -> Hardware.
Also where can I get the latest copy of open-e dss? I'm new to open-e.
I updateed to the latest version, but I'm still facing the same problem..
No Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter found. All Groups and HBAs settings will be saved but will have no functionality until you plug in appropriate HBA card.

Model: OEM Storage Server
Version: 5.0.DB46000000.3084
Release date: 2008-05-05
Emulex LP9002 is supported for initiator mode only.
Try to set the Kernel version to 2.6.25 in the Boot Options from Console Tools - CRTL + ALT + T Then select system architecture. There you will find the 32bit mode TESTING version. Save and reboot. Once rebooted make sure to set the HBA in Setup > Fibre Channel for initiator mode then reboot.
If that does not work send logs to support also make sure to update all firmware from motherboard to HBA - I have seen issues like this before.
Thanks for the quick response, I really appreciate it. I will go down to the data center tonight and upgrade all the firmware and do the steps you've provided.
Please excuse my ignorance on this subject.. but bluntly, what is the difference between initiator and target mode? Can initiator mode be used a a 'direct-attach' to my media server via FC-AL?
