    Question Dynamic volumes

    Hello All

Having a good NetApp background, I thougt that "dynamic" and "Standart" volumes would be about the same thing as DataOnTap's "Flex-" and "Traditional" Volumes. But within DSS they seem to behave completely different.

I've searched all docs and forums, but couln't find any explanation what for dynamic volumes in DSS are.

After creation of a dynamic volume (931GB) I can't create any shares or lun's on it, nor can I delete it.

So, what is this good for ? Any helpfull information would be highly apreciated

You are correct and that is something that we will address in future within our help files.

The dynamic unit is a single drive or multiple drives, which can be used as a
removable backup device or from a RAID set or an iSCSI Target available
within our built initiator to create a Dynamic unit from the Volume Group.

This gives you the option to write a local backup to this
unit in a secure place and have the ability to remove it and re-insert it for later usage.

Using a hard drive as a backup media, provides you huge capacity
for a very low price and also provides fast access to the backup.

Additionally this provides VTL capabilities, so it is used only for backup functions within our backup feature available in DSS and NAS-R3.
    All the best,

    Todd Maxwell

    Still one unanswered question:

How to delete a dynamic volume ?

There is also no possibility to delete a volume group ?
